Do you have a studio apartment and are looking for solutions that allow you to optimize space? Are you a mom and want a simple and easy to manage sofa for your children's room? Combine the oriental touch of tatami with the quality of Italian textiles to have a unique product.
Choose a thinner, lighter futon if you plan to move it often. Opt for a 14 cm version instead, perhaps with a latex insert, if the mattress will be used overnight. For an extra oriental touch, add pillows with matching or two-tone covers and a bedspread with Kanji.
The amount of combinations you can get using futons and tatami is really wide, and the products in this section are just some examples of the flexibility offered. You can opt for the Futon + Tatami Kit, consisting of a single, double mattress folded in two. In contrast, the Kanto Double sofa, consisting of two single futons placed on top of the other, offers the ultimate versatility, turning into a corner sofa or double bed.
The futon sofa bed offers a simple and versatile solution: a few natural and carefully chosen elements allow for maximum comfort without sacrificing a minimal Japanese style. Selecting a futon sofa bed means eliminating complex metal structures and synthetic coverings, replacing them with a 100% natural, hypoallergenic and cruelty-free product.
What you need
The futon: a carded cotton mattress, with slightly rounded edges, decorated with bows that act as quilting. The basic color is ecru, or the off-white of undyed cotton. If you prefer a colored futon, we offer a wide selection of fabrics, textures, and colors. Call us and request a free sample submission to find your ideal color, with no obligation to purchase.
The tatami: a mat of pressed rice straw covered with igusa, the typical woven rush. The tatami has the dual function of raising the futon from the ground and offer a semi-rigid base thanks to the yielding of straw. The classic tatami has a thickness of 5.5 cm, but if you prefer a lighter panel, you can replace it with a lowered one.
Futons and tatami mats are characterized as highly versatile modules. They can be placed on top of each other to save space, you can arrange them to form a corner sofa, horseshoe, or even a square. Increase the number of modules to multiply the possible combinations. The Kanto armchair, for example, can be used as an ottoman, or to extend the length of the sofa over 2 meters classic tatami.
What ypu can add
The cushions:used for the Kanto sofa, have a standard size of 50x55 cm. It is possible to request a whole series of ad hoc customizations, from the large rectangular cushion to be positioned as a backrest to the circular neckrolls used as armrests.
The bedspread or sack liner: The liner is particularly suitable if you plan to move or fold the futon often because it follows its every movement. The choice of a bedspread is more ideal if you want to dress the futon with sheets and mattress with corners, so you can use it immediately for the night. Within the Kanto Lux option, you will find both single color bedspreads and those with Japanese Kanji.
