Futon - Japanese Sleeping (8/11 cm)

Tell me how you sleep, and I'll tell you who you are.

Are you looking for a bed that communicates an idea of beauty while freeing you of any unnecessary frills? The use of the futon in Japan is somewhat symbolic of many aspects of Eastern culture. Simplicity, minimalism, elimination of the superfluous.

You've always thought you could sleep better on the floor than on a feather mattress, but you wonder how healthy such a choice could be? In Japan, a firm support for the night is the norm and maybe the solution for you.

The futon in Japan is an extremely thin mattress rolled up and put away during the day. This custom meets two needs, one practical and one spiritual. The first is to make the best use of space in a small house, as most Japanese houses have always been. The second is to avoid any unnecessary clutter, to create a serene environment that promotes the free flow of energy according to the rules of Feng Shui, or Japanese Ka-so.

Our futons are made with 100% natural and cruelty-free materials, ideal for bringing back to modern society the values and rhythms of a more ancient time.

A Japanese bed allows you to redefine space, creating a new harmony even within a Western home.

The recommended thickness of the futon is between 8 and 11 cm. The support offered is quite rigid, also considering that over time the cotton flaps tend to crush and harden. The 8 cm futons roll up just like those used in Japan. The 11 cm models are a bit softer, but they can only be folded because of the greater thickness.

The real Japanese futon should be placed on the tatami. For what reason?

Tatami serves several functions. The straw inside has heat-insulating properties, absorbs moisture and is slightly yielding, a handy feature if the futon will be used very often and not just occasionally for sleeping.
The area covered by the tatami can be the same size as the mattress, a little larger, creating a small island around the bed, or cover the entire room.
It is possible to place the tatami mats on a platform bed, raise the structure slightly off the ground, increase breathability, or add an interlocking frame surrounding the tatami mats and marries the simplicity of a Japanese bed with the warm, natural colors of wood.
